Cranberry & Black

Image
We're in the thick of the third snow this season, which is unheard of for coastal NC. Everything is mushy and gray, and evening yoga keeps getting cancelled. I'm ready for melting, warming, and longer days. And to not need so many layers, though I do like this combination: Dress: Target; Sweatshirt: Everlane; Tights: Target; Boots: DV by Dolce Vita; Necklaces: Gifts Christopher is now consistently replacing a table and auto-timer. He's doing a pretty good job, too.

Gray Monday

Sweatshirt: Anthropologie; Shirt: Everlane; Skirt: H&M; Tights: Gap; Belt: Target; Boots: White Mountain

Suddenly Spring

Image
Shirt: Everlane; Dress: ASOS; Belt: NY&Co.; Shoes: Mossimo via Target It's weird to think that just four or five days ago it was in the negatives. Today was mid-fifties and bright, and it was exciting not to have to wear leggings or tights. Classes started yesterday, so I'm back to professional dressing, lest some well-meaning passerby asks what courses I'm taking. It happens more often than you'd think. I promise I wear dresses other than this one. It's just so versatile and comfortable. Photo credit to Christopher, who is a sweetheart.

For you, Navy Blue

Image
Navy blue might always be my staple color of choice. I'm always amazed by what I can match with this dress. Christopher said I look sad in my pictures, so I'm making an effort to look more content and less, like Christopher put is, "like a child who didn't get what she wanted for Christmas." Dress: ASOS; Sweater: Gap; Boots: White Mountain; Scarf: Gift

Color to Combat the Cold

Image
Wind chill was -5 degrees Wednesday morning, which might make some of my northern friends scoff, but I've never experienced a January this bitter on the usually ever-warm coast. And somehow piling on as many colors as possible seemed like it would repel the chill. Besides, I'm always looking for an appropriate way to wear the Big Bird tights. Sweater: J. Crew Factory; Skirt: Rafaello via TJ Maxx; Tights: Target; Boots: Steve Madden via eBay; Scarf: Gift

Inadvertently Christmas-themed

Dress: American Eagle; Shirt: Target; Scarf: Gift; Socks: Target; Boots: Steve Madden via eBay

Tuesday Blue

Image
Dress: ASOS; Sweater: American Eagle; Belt: Target; Socks: Target; Boots: DV by Dolce Vita; Necklaces: Gifts This navy ASOS dress might be the best clothing purchase I've made all year. It's amazing all the things you can do with a simple blue skater dress. My real pride with this outfit, though, is the necklace, which is really two short necklaces that I clasped together to make it look like one statement piece. Ingenuity, guys.

Bundled Up

Image
Dress: ASOS; Cardigan: American Eagle; Belt: Target; Tights: Target: Boots: DV by Dolce Vita; Scarf: Gift; Earrings: World Market I'm going through one of those phases where I'm tired of everything in my closet. But I like this. I really like this.

Conference Wear

Image
Top: Anthropologie; Jacket: Custom; Skirt: H&M; Flats: Steve Madden I wore this to an academic conference last month. Everything needs to be tailored badly. I realized too late that most of the things I wear to work aren't professional enough for this kind of event.

Navy and Plaid

Image
Tunic: ModCloth; Skirt: Rafaello via TJ Maxx; Pumps: Mossimo via Target; Earrings: American Eagle I love to dress up more casual clothes. It feels like getting away with something I'm not really supposed to do. In college I became really good at dressing up pajamas. No one ever knew. These are the earrings I wore: Little bicycles make me feel like I'm getting a lot done.

Warm October

Image
Sweatshirt: Alternative Apparel; Tank: Target; Skirt: Loft; Flats: Alfani via Belk; Scarf: Gift This skirt is too big in both the waist and thighs but just right around the butt, a category too many of my mini skirts fall into. The result is a weird bell shape instead of a tailored look. I love the green tweed, though.

Wrapped in Gauze

Image
Sweater: American Eagle; Skirt: H&M; Tights: Target; Boots: Steve Madden; Scarf: Gift I didn't realize until I uploaded the pictures that they were all blurry, and this was well after I'd ditched the work clothes for sweats. But you get the idea. Besides, the blurriness gives it a ghostly effect, and it is awfully close to Halloween.

Greens and Blues

Image
Sweater: Everlane; Skirt: Loft; Tights: Target; Boots: DV by Dolce Vita I'm still on the fence about the Big Bird tights, but they get so little wear and I figured there was enough mustard in the skirt to make them sort of go together. EDIT:  Actually, after more thought, I've decided I don't like this combination. Color-blocking fail.

Sweatshirt Dressy

Image
Sweatshirt: Everlane; Skirt: Rafaello via TJ Maxx; Boots: Steve Madden via eBay; Scarf: Loft Outlet; Sunglasses: TJ Maxx I woke up on Tuesday thinking it was Wednesday, Wednesday thinking it was Thursday, and the cycle continued through the week. By Thursday, I was so ready for Friday that dressing up a sweatshirt felt almost mandatory. This one is so, so soft.

Giraffes

Image
Dress: ASOS; Blouse: Everlane; Tights: Target; Boots: Steve Madden via eBay; Scarf: Street seller in Dublin It's finally beginning to dip below 70 degrees, so I'm starting the process of winterization by autumning up my summer dresses. These boots are hands down my favorite eBay purchase ever.

Prints on Prints

It was 80 and humid today. All I want is to pile on scarves, tights, boots, but alas. Top: Loft; Skirt: Rafaello via TJ Maxx; Heels: Nine West via DSW

Rain Bears

Image
Dress: Anthropologie; Cardigan: Gap; Tights: Target; Boots: DV by Dolce Vita It's been gray and rainy for the past four days. Boots and sweaters have been a must. And bears. I'm usually apprehensive about patterned pieces because I find them harder to mix-and-match, but I haven't regretted this dress purchase for a minute. I need a better way to take pictures than my Mac. I need a friend. That's what I need.

Silk and Roses

Image
Dress: Nine West via TJ Maxx; Shirt: Everlane; Belt: Target   I honestly forgot about shoes since I have nowhere to be for the day. It's been kind of a rough adjustment, but things are starting to fall back into place. I miss my old picture spot, though. I'm on day four of going no poo. The next few weeks will be tough, but I think in the end I'll like it. Besides, what better time to try out personal improvement experiments than when you're unemployed?

Dressing for work when it's 90 degrees

Image
Dress: Alternative Apparel; Jacket: Old Navy (old); Belt: Target; Flips: Ocean Minded via Piperlime   Top: American Eagle; Skirt: Ann Taylor Loft; Flats: Steve Madden via DSW; Headband: H&M  I need to find a better way to take pictures. Here's one to prove I'm not as washed out as Photobooth claims: Earrings: World Market I'll miss my backyard so much when we move, though. It's so pretty and green. Sometimes deer will come right up to the railroad ties and snack. P. S. I'm selling a few things on eBay.  Check it out.

Black on Black

Image
Silk blouse: Everlane; Skirt and belt: H&M; Boots: Steve Madden via eBay This Everlane blouse was kind of a splurge, but easily the most comfortable and versatile item I've purchased all year. It's actually been too hot lately to warrant this kind of wardrobe, but the tropical storm has been pushing through a lot of wind and rain.
